Oita(大分) Hot spring Up in the Mountain! Kujukogen Cottage 久住高原コテージ (22nd - 23rd May 2015)

Continuing from my last blog entry where I was eating my way through the Yufuin Station...

We got picked up from the station by a van with other hotels' passengers too and we were the first to get dropped off. Originally I thought this would be a short trip, but no... It was like 45 mins by car? Because we were going all the way up, near the top of the mountain.
By the time you arrive, you will see this massive natural view in front of you!

It's like you have arrived in the middle of no where and all you have got is this cottage hotel!

Although it's nearly summer, when you climbed up the hill, it's always colder!! So bring your jackets!

When you step inside, you will see the front desk reception and the souvenir shop.
'

Oh and you will get this specially made snack by the hotel for free in your room to try!

If you like it, you can buy more! It tastes like lemon filling biscuits.

Opposite the reception, you will see the dining area for breakfast and normal meals.

For breakfast, it's a Japanese/Western buffet breakfast which includes sausages, egg roll, salad, miso soup, Japanese rice, ham etc It's a mix of both.

Now let me show you our rooms!

As the cottages look the same, there are lots of sign telling you where to go!

The room isn't as big as you think but it's comfy enough for two persons! There is heater, tv, fridge etc.

They also provided you yellow pullovers for you to wear while you stay there. Cos it's quite cold, you will probably wear it even though it's not attractive...

Oh and there are also wind jackets provided next to the door! So when the temperature drops further at night, you can wear those!
I have to say though, the window view was astonishing!

This is exactly what I saw out of my window!!

It's really ideal if you are looking for somewhere totally different from the city!!

It really does relieved my stresses and I forgot about my city life while I was there!

And that's the sink and toilet.

Now let's head to the hot spring!

Really don't have to worry about getting lost, there are signs everywhere!

Again, because I can't take any photos inside... here is the official site photos.

It might seem exaggerating but it is what it looks like with a rooftop though. So if you come at the right season, you can see this green field! And of course, the beautiful sky.

Again, there is female, male side split.

The indoor bit of the hot spring.

I want to give you a little warning though, this onsen's temperature is hotter than others. Maybe it's because the weather up in the mountain is much colder, so the hot spring water is hotter. So you might not be able to stay in that hot spring for longer than 20 min...  You better take breaks in between!

Oh and take a shower before you enter the hot spring! Manners!

The sky was particularly pretty too, when the clouds faded away, you can just lay on the wooden floor next to the hot spring during your breaks and star at the starry sky!!!!! Me and my friend did that for like 15 mins even though it's cold at night (cos the hot spring was really quite hot enough for us to go naked lying on the group for that long amount of time.)

Let's talk about the dinner now!

The Plan we joined was: Upgraded dinner (Satisfying Plan) which costed 10700yen per person! (tax included)

Our dinner plan wasn't just the normal Japanese meal, we chose the bbq dinner instead.
As you follow the sign, you will find the restaurant!
This is the bbq restaurant

Opening the door, you will see this traditional cottage feel setting with bbq tables.

We are sitting by the window!

Menu which included all sorts of meat!

Starter with kimchi, white carrot (Daikon), ume (plum), and chopped vegetables.

Beef, but I don't know which part to which.... But I prefer this one the most, out of all the parts given.

After the Sendai trip, of course I couldn't bring myself but to think about ox tongue again!

Chicken ball soup made with locally bred chicken.
Pork belly o.o

The chicken was surprisingly soft and doesn't really taste like chicken.

There is a reason why this plan is called the satisfying plan.... BECAUSE it includes all sorts of meat!! beef, pork and chicken!

OHHHHH... look at the fireXDDD

I personally prefer meat with less fat so the beef was very satisfying!

Cabbages were also given so you can eat it in a Korean way - putting the pork and vegetable inside the cabbage and wrap it!

But the vegetable, including the starter does help you to clean up the grease in your mouth!

To end the dinner, they gave you sobert. You can choose lemon or Tangerine!

Including within the plan, we also got 1 hour free karaoke!!

I strongly recommend you this Hot Spring spot because it's not expensive as it included two meals, karaoke and most importantly THE BREATH-TAKING VIEW while you are enjoying your hot spring!!!

It is also rare that you get to have hot spring near the top of the mountain and it is one of the best view hot spring listed on the Kyushu Official website!!
